Boiler and Steam Plant Services Operator to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of our steam, water, and air systems within a high-performing chemical and manufacturing site. You will be responsible for monitoring, controlling, and maintaining boilers, steam plant systems, pipelines, and associated equipment to meet operational and safety requirements. is your chance to work in a cutting-edge facility, ensuring the smooth operation of medium and high-speed production lines that manufacture quality materials for product application. Your Role Responsibilities & Duties – Plant Services Operator You’ll play a key role in ensuring the process runs smoothly and efficiently. Boiler & Steam Plant Operations: Operate and monitor steam boilers, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels to ensure continuous and efficient performance Conduct daily temperature, pressure, and flow readings to maintain optimal plant performance Perform boiler water treatment to prevent scaling, corrosion, and operational issues Adjust steam and water control valves, regulators, and safety devices as necessary Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Carry out routine maintenance, inspections, and servicing of boilers, air compressors, steam distribution systems, and pipework Identify and rectify steam leaks, faulty valves, pressure drops, and inefficiencies in the system Work with the engineering team to plan and implement preventative maintenance programs to maximize equipment lifespan Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with HSE (Health, Safety & Environmental) regulations, including steam safety standards, pressure systems safety, and COSHH regulations Conduct regular safety checks and risk assessments on boilers, pipework, and steam-related equipment Follow permit-to-work and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures when performing maintenance tasks System Efficiency & Control: Monitor and adjust boiler feedwater, condensate return systems, and steam traps to optimize energy use Ensure compressed air, water, and steam systems operate within required specifications Record operational data, log reports, and recommend efficiency improvements for plant utilities Ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and operational procedures Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement Adjusting machine settings to maintain product quality Monitoring performance to ensure smooth operation Diagnosing and fixing minor mechanical or technical faults Reporting more complex issues to the engineering team Ensuring all processes meet health, safety, and quality standards Recording data on performance and quality Role Requirements & Skills – Plant Services Operator Experience in a fast-paced production or manufacturing environment (Manufacturing, automotive, chemicals, or similar) Strong mechanical aptitude – hands-on with machines and equipment A problem-solver who thrives in a dynamic, ever-changing environment NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in engineering/mechanics is a plus Mechanically minded individuals who enjoy hands-on work. Problem solvers who can think quickly on their feet. Team players who can communicate with operators, engineers, and supervisors Proven experience working with boilers, steam systems, water treatment, air compressors, and associated plant equipment in a manufacturing or chemical environment. Strong understanding of steam generation, pressure systems, and thermodynamics. Ability to read schematics, and technical manuals. Knowledge of boiler controls, temperature/pressure regulation, and fault-finding techniques. Familiarity with Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems, LOTO procedures, and safety protocols. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or Boiler Operations (BOAS certification preferred). Experience in chemical or heavy industrial sites is an advantage. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
