Job Purpose:
NATS can offer an exciting and unique opportunity providing engineering services at Cardiff Airport, working closely with the airport to ensure critical Air Traffic equipment is available for operational use and responding to failures to limit any prolonged downtime.
You will be a focal point for planned and corrective maintenance management on a range of operational engineering systems and functions. Equipment installation and commissioning of the latest Air Traffic Control systems.
Duties include but not limited to:
1. Plan and carry out planned and corrective maintenance on a range of Air Traffic Control systems.
2. Prioritise faults and or direct engineering resources towards a safe and expeditious restoration of service.
3. Make operational decisions; provide guidance, specialist advice and assistance.
4. Maintain clear and accurate records for all activities where required.
5. Fully brief Air Traffic Control and other engineering staff, supervise Airport Maintenance Engineers and contractors ensuring compliance with NATS Management System.
6. Maintain own Competency Ratings and ensure any concerns are reported to the Engineering Manager.
7. Conduct post incident procedures to aid the provision of Incident Reports in the event of a safety related event.
8. Expected to work on a variety of equipment and interfaces across the airport. The range of equipment would be across the Communications, Navigation, Surveillance, and Information domains.
Qualifications/Skills:
1. Engineering qualification to Higher National Certificate (NVQ Level 4) as a minimum in Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications or Computer Science and relevant experience.
2. ATSEP training would be an advantage.
3. Airport Air Traffic Control systems and equipment knowledge, with experience in maintenance, understanding the impact that these systems may have on Air Traffic Control operations.
4. Commercial awareness to appreciate what impact a facility failure would have on our customers and dependencies on Air Traffic Management engineering systems.
5. Able to prioritise actions under pressure, be technically competent to work on a wide range of equipment and have a logical approach to problem solving.
6. Ability to work as part of a team and using own initiative.
7. Effective judgement skills to maintain operational services in a safety critical environment.
8. Full UK Driving Licence - Will be required to drive airside & maintain an airside driving permit.
Additional information:
Working hours are a rotational shift pattern Monday to Friday within the hours of 08:00 - 16:00. The post has a requirement to be rostered On-Call 1 in 3 weeks once Unit Competency has been achieved. On-call periods are to provide 24/7 cover and attract an on-call allowance.
