A young person requires support to develop independence to enhance their life
Preferred days/times:
Three hours per week at weekends, day and time to be arranged between the client and PA.
The PA will be required to have a vehicle and full, clean, UK driving licence. The client will pay mileage.
Tasks/duties:
To be supported with accessing the community and learning to be independent, with money skills, and being more confident in the community away from their parents.
Client main diagnosis:
Down syndrome
Autism
Mild hearing loss
When overwhelmed, the client can shout and cry
Communication:
The client understands simple single instruction when it is specifically modified to their level of understanding; they will often say 'yes' to everything. Those new to working with the client can find it difficult to interpret their speech and may require support at first from those who know them well.
The client uses sign language to communicate and needs to be reminded to use this in non-familiar settings. In addition, the client has a talker which helps them to communicate, and they enjoy and delight in using it.
Client enjoys:
The client enjoys going to the cinema, bowling, for walks, to cafés, and to the shops.
This opportunity is suited for someone who is responsible, reliable, patient, and proactive. Knowledge of BSL would be helpful though not essential as the client has a communication device.
