As a key member of our small and dynamic team, the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) will play a critical role in shaping the scientific direction of our company. We are looking for a candidate who thrives in a collaborative environment and excels at clear and effective communication. This role requires close collaboration with the CEO and Senior Mechanical Engineer to align scientific initiatives with our business goals and technical innovations.

Job Description: As Chief Scientific Officer, you will drive the scientific vision and research direction for our lithium-ion battery recycling program. You will focus on developing scalable, efficient, and sustainable processes to reclaim and manufacture high-quality active materials. With a core emphasis on electrochemistry and materials science, you will oversee the development and implementation of advanced testing and analytical methods to ensure quality and performance at every stage.
Key Responsibilities:
* Strategic Leadership : Shape the scientific vision and R&D strategy for lithium-ion battery recycling, focusing on electrochemical and green active material manufacturing approaches.
* Advanced Testing & Analysis : Lead & pioneer scientific testing and validation efforts for active materials, using advanced analytical techniques (SEM, RAMAN, XRD, etc.) and electrochemical techniques.
* Electrochemical Testing Expertise : Oversee the design and execution of electrochemical testing protocols for battery materials, such as cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic cycling, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and other techniques crucial to evaluating battery performance.
* Technical Oversight : Direct the development of recovery processes for active materials, ensuring they meet quality, cost, and sustainability targets suitable for large-scale manufacturing.
* Production Quality Compliance : Establish and maintain rigorous production quality control measures, ensuring all materials adhere to established quality standards. Implement batch testing protocols to verify consistency, performance, and safety, driving improvements in manufacturing processes as needed.
* Regulatory & Safety Compliance : Ensure all processes and materials comply with safety, environmental, and industry regulations, maintaining strict adherence to evolving standards.
* Fundraising & Grants : Support the company’s fundraising efforts and identify and pursue funding opportunities, including government grants and private investment, to support research and development initiatives. Collaborate with leadership to develop proposals, manage grant applications, and foster partnerships to secure ongoing financial support for scientific and technological advancements.
Qualifications
* PhD in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline with a focus on lithium-ion batteries and recycling.
* Proven expertise in electrochemistry, particularly with lithium-ion battery materials and recycling technologies.
* Strong background in designing and implementing scientific testing methods, including Raman spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES), and electrochemical analysis techniques.
* Extensive experience scaling up chemical recovery processes for mass production, with a commitment to green chemistry and sustainable manufacturing.
* Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
