We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and resilient SEMH Learning Mentor to join our educational team, based in Exeter, Devon. The ideal candidate will be lively, fun, energetic, yet composed, with the ability to connect and impart knowledge on basic subjects, life skills, and social interaction in a one-to-one setting. You'll have an array of fantastic resources at your fingertips to deliver an education that makes a real difference in the lives of our students.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Provide one-to-one mentoring to students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, tailoring approaches to individual learning styles.
2. Develop and implement engaging lesson plans in basic subjects such as Math, English, and Science while integrating life and social skills.
3. Monitor and evaluate students' progress, adapting strategies as necessary to promote their personal development.
4. Establish a trusting rapport with students to foster a positive, supportive learning environment.
5. Work collaboratively with other staff members to plan and coordinate activities that enhance students' educational experience.
6. Utilize a variety of educational resources creatively to enrich the learning process.
7. Be proactive in identifying students' barriers to learning and actively participate in problem-solving to help overcome obstacles.
8. Encourage independence and self-advocacy in students.
9. Manage behavioural expectations within the classroom and around the school, always promoting positive behaviour.
Location: Exeter
Salary: £85-£95
Hours: Monday-Friday 0830-1530
Requirements:
1. A patient, energetic, and resilient individual with a passion for making a positive impact on young people's lives.
2. Prior experience in an educational setting working with SEMH or similar needs is highly desirable.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, staff, and parents.
4. Ability to work independently on a one-to-one basis, as well as a part of a team.
5. A creative thinker with excellent organizational and planning skills.
6. A commitment to professional development and staying updated on best practices in SEMH education.
Qualifications:
Relevant qualifications or experience in education, youth work, psychology, or counselling is advantageous.
