We are seeking a number of highly motivated individuals to drive and support the work of the All-Age Commissioning Team across both Children’s and Adult Services. The roles range from Children’s Strategic Commissioning Manager through to a Placement Officer.
The roles available are:
1. Strategic Commissioning Manager – Children’s Social Care, Education and SEND (Full Time, Grade N £52,805 - £56,140 + 15% recruitment and retention allowance)
2. Lead Commissioner – Working Age Adults (Full Time, Grade L £46,731 - £49,764)
3. Lead Placement Officer – All Age (Full Time, Grade G £31,067 - £33,366)
4. Placement Officer – Working Age (Full Time, Grade E £25,992 - £27,269)
In these pivotal roles, you will either lead the commissioning and delivery of services across your assigned portfolio, ensuring alignment with the Council’s strategic priorities or make, lead, and develop high quality social care and/or education placements in partnership with Services and the Provider market.

About the roles…
Strategic Commissioning Manager – Children’s Social Care, Education and SEND
You will drive innovation and transformation, identifying opportunities to redesign services and systems, and support the Senior Management Team and Gateshead Council in developing placement sufficiency to improve outcomes and efficiency. You will be responsible for leading a team through the whole commissioning cycle, including the development, implementation, and management of strategies and contracts. You will play a key role in embedding a collaborative approach across portfolios, services and building strong relationships with system and sector partners.
Lead Commissioner – Working Age Adult
You will lead on the development and implementation of strategies, develop systems and processes to improve the way in which services are commissioned and reviewed to improve outcomes for service users and their families and contribute to market engagement and development. You will be supporting and enabling independence and ensuring that the right service provision is in place to meet the needs of the working age community.
Lead Placement Officer – All Age
You will lead and develop the team to provide an efficient, coherent and compliant placement support service implemented via the Authorities information management system to record care packages and placement searches and ensure accurate and timely payment to providers working closely with our payments team. You will look at systems and processes, how to drive placement quality, market response, increase opportunities for personalisation and commissioning for outcomes. The post will be involved in placement panels and drive the implementation of quality contracts that allow for review and monitoring of outcomes in partnership with services.
Placement Officer – Working Age Adults
You will provide a high level of customer service to all stakeholders via telephone, email or in person, acting as the first point of contact for requests for care packages and placements, liaising with social care professionals and providers to confirm requirements and make arrangements for assessed package of care or placement. This will include recording care package and placement searches and ensuring accurate and timely payment to providers working closely with our payments team.
