Locum Consultant in Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery
Applications are invited for a 12-month fixed-term Locum Consultant in Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery. This is a full-time Locum Consultant appointment, making up a team of 4 full-time Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultants in the Norwich Paediatric Orthopaedic Unit. While this consultant post is primarily based at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals, the appointee will have regular fixed commitments at either the James Paget University Hospital, Great Yarmouth, or Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn.
A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time post will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed, the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.
The successful candidate will join the team at the NNUH in providing a high level of paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedic care to the region with both elective and emergency work at the hub hospital.
The new appointee will have regular external duties (once per week) at either the James Paget Hospital, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk or Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn. This will include outpatient clinics, operating sessions, and administrative/managerial duties. It is expected that the new appointee will fully integrate within the department, contributing to education and service development in addition to the clinical duties. They will be accompanied by an Extended Scope Physiotherapist who will deliver CTEV, DDH, and normal variant services under Consultant supervision.
The new appointee will be expected to be able to independently manage general paediatric trauma & orthopaedic conditions. Preference will be given to candidates with subspecialty interests complementing those of the existing consultants. Candidates with an elective adult orthopaedic interest (e.g., hip, knee, foot/ankle) in addition to paediatric orthopaedics will be considered, and job plans modified, in order to accommodate time for that subspecialty interest.
