Role Overview
The UKRI Place Engagement Lead will sit within the newly established UKRI Place Team and report into the Director, UKRI Place Programme. They will work across UKRI in collaboration with engagement colleagues and others to support development of a cross-organisation approach to engagement on Place. Their focus will be on coordinating and helping to expand UKRI’s engagement with regional and devolved partners and in particular Mayoral Combined Authorities in England and Government and City authorities in the Devolved Nations.
Key Areas of Accountability
* Play a proactive role in working across the UKRI Place Team, regional engagement teams, External Affairs, Communications and Engagement Teams, and others, to ensure sharing of intelligence and information, promoting cross-team working and skills development, and the implementation of a consistent corporate narrative to all audiences.
* Act as the main point of contact for the UKRI Place Connectivity & Engagement workstream within the UKRI Place Team.
* Act as a key UKRI contact point for at least one major civic authority across the UK, coordinating effectively with partners across UKRI.
* Provide strategic briefing and advice to senior UKRI leaders to support their external stakeholder engagement on Place.
* Explore and establish novel mechanisms to engage collectively on place with key stakeholders, helping to develop a cohesive external community.
* Work closely with UK Government partners to coordinate UKRI input into and reporting against key UK Government agreements with civic authorities.
* Support the UKRI Place Director in managing both high-profile, urgent and sensitive activity as required.
* Develop a strong understanding of the Place landscape both internally and externally.
Essential skills, qualifications and experience
Essential:
* Ability to build, manage, and sustain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
* Experience working across multiple teams, integrating diverse viewpoints.
* Strong knowledge of the UK research and innovation landscape.
* Proficiency in preparing and delivering strategic briefings to senior leaders.
* Proven ability to lead effectively in complex environments.
* Experience balancing competing priorities and working to deadlines.
Desirable:
* Experience or expertise of local civic authorities and devolution.
