Paediatric Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job overview
We are looking for a passionate Band 6 Paediatric Respiratory Support Nurse who is motivated and committed to working within our unit and to upholding the values of West Suffolk Hospital. This is a 12 month fixed term contract to support the paediatric respiratory team.
The paediatric departments at West Suffolk Hospital provide care to children and young people aged 0-16 years across a range of medical and surgical specialties.
We are a friendly, supportive team that are passionate about delivering first-class care to the families and patients who access our service, whilst working closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Responsibilities
1. Work to achieve the philosophy of care for children with respiratory conditions.
2. Support consultant-led clinics associated with respiratory disorders in children.
3. Act as a role model, providing clinical leadership to all staff, and promoting effective teamwork.
4. Assist with coordinating diagnostic investigations.
5. Plan, implement and evaluate individual programmes of care that recognize the diverse needs of children and their families in conjunction with the MDT.
6. Ensure a high standard of care based on assessment of care needs in consultation with the child, the child’s relatives, and the multi-disciplinary team and where appropriate conduct home visits.
7. Ensure effective lines of communication within the multi-disciplinary team to achieve an optimum level of service to patients and their relatives.
8. Support families in stressful situations, acting as a resource for patients and carers in the acute and community setting.
9. Assist in the coordination and liaison of relatives, the care and requirements of children receiving oxygen therapy at home.
10. Assess the learning needs of individual children and relatives where appropriate. Evaluate the teaching provided and take necessary action to achieve objectives.
11. Act as an advocate on behalf of children and their relatives, ensuring the child or relative’s interests, rights and privacy are respected.

Person specification
Education & Qualification
* RN – Child or respiratory CNS experience.
* Evidence of further professional development.
* Recognised additional clinical post-graduate qualification within the clinical group.
* Educated to Masters level or with equivalent experience.
Experience & Knowledge
* Ability to lead on guidance and policy within the sphere of responsibility.
* Considerable experience in the field of respiratory care and considerable post-registration experience.
* Good understanding of quality assessment methodology.
* Track record of achievement in clinical care.
* Evidence of advanced clinical assessment skills.
Skills & Abilities
* Proven management and teaching skills.
* Experience of change management.
* Evidence of professional development and high standard of leadership.
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Ability to remain calm under pressure.
* Ability to work as part of a team as well as autonomously.
