As a reporting paediatric Sonographer, the successful applicant will be primarily based in the main radiology department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, or in the ultrasound rooms in the out-patient clinic or emergency department.
The aim of this role is to work as an independent reporting Sonographer, performing specialised paediatric ultrasound examinations to a high standard, formulating concise and accurate reports, and communicating results to the appropriate clinician. In this manner, delivering a safe, effective and efficient service that meets both patient/families/carers, and staff requirements and the Vision of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Interviews will be held face to face on site.
Main duties of the job
1. To have specialist knowledge and skills for interpreting, reporting and diagnosing a range of complex patient conditions for paediatric ultrasound examinations undertaken.
2. To use analytical and judgement skills to interpret complex ultrasound imaging, where accuracy is required to differentiate between normal and pathological findings.
3. To provide a diagnostic, authorised report of the clinical findings to clinicians.
4. Prioritise, justify and manage workload as an individual and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
5. Provide theoretical and clinical training for Trainee Sonographers, Specialist Registrars and Student Radiographers.
6. Be required to work collaboratively with clinical, managerial and admin colleagues to develop and enhance ultrasound imaging services.
7. Be responsible for own CPD and professional and personal development through personal study, reflection, attendance at MDT meetings and ultrasound education meetings. Participate and support clinical audit and quality assurance testing, promoting continuous improvement in service delivery and quality within ultrasound imaging.
8. Follow policies, procedures and protocols relating to and underpinning the ultrasound service in line with guidance from Royal College of Radiologists and College of Radiographers.
9. Work flexibly to meet the demands of the service and be required to participate in 08:00 – 20:00 service provision including weekends as rostered.
