Main Responsibilities Our 14 household waste recycling centres accept around 85,000 tonnes of waste per year and accept 42 types of material. The recycling centres are visited approximately 1.6 million times a year by residents. You will play a key role in helping us maintain the best service for residents, be sustainable and provide good value for money. You'll be responsible for: Ensuring all HWRCs are being operated and maintained in a safe and professional manner, in accordance with their Environmental Permit, Planning Permissions and councils’ procedures. (Set a personal example regarding health and safety and environment matters) Conduct Risk Assessments on activities within their department ensuring that the methods and systems of work are safe. Also, that the necessary procedures, rules and regulations designed to achieve this are applied. To maximise recycling rates at all HWRCs under the Supervisor’s control. Identify opportunities to expand the range of materials for recycling. Managing staff and day-to-day operations including staff rotas, induction of new employees/temporary labour and/or visitors to site, employee relations issues and identification of employee training requirements. To manage, supervise, motivate, coach and develop all employees under the Supervisor’s control. Ensuring that all plant and equipment at the HWRC’s are safe and maintained in accordance with all health and safety regulations, as well as ensure that all daily checks and records are carried out. To ensure that all systems are being adhered to by all employees under the Supervisor’s control, taking appropriate remedial action where required. Promoting high profile helpful, courteous and professional customer service. To undertake any other duties reasonably requested by SCC management, including working at other sites and assisting with recycling. The use of works vehicle is available for the travel for work and between HWRC sites but not for personal use. The Ideal Candidate You'll have: A Certificate of technical competence in Hazardous Waste Transfer (NVQ Level 4). Strong leadership skills involving a multi-disciplined team, delivering measurable results through motivating others. People development skills and leadership qualities; able to coach and motivate employees to deliver results. Commitment, determination and a strong drive to meet personal objectives. Ability to work collaboratively and influence at all levels in a capacity of adding value to the decision-making process. Performance driven with the ability to deliver added value and assist in the improvement of operational performance. Ability to assist in the operational strategic direction of the HWRC Network. Working knowledge of health and safety legislation and operations. An understanding of recycling and recyclable materials is an advantage. Experience in the operation of Household waste recycling centres (HWRC'S) A Full UK driving licence.
