Location: Hughes Hall, Cambridge CB1 2EW Probation Period: 12 months Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week Starting salary: £43,092 (Hughes Hall spine point 46) Hughes Hall Henslow Research Fellow – Fixed term 3 Years Hughes Hall, a college of the University of Cambridge, invites applications for election to a stipendiary Henslow Research Fellowship. The Research Fellowship is tenable for three years, with effect from 1 October 2025 and is funded by a generous donation from the Cambridge Philosophical Society – see: https://www.cambridgephilosophicalsociety.org/henslow-fellowship We particularly welcome applications from people whose research pushes the boundaries of current knowledge within or across disciplines, and who strive to make an impact through their work. These qualities will already have been demonstrated in some way, with opportunities being available for developing them further during your time at Hughes Hall. We are looking for individuals who will make a significant difference to the College and who will benefit from the support that we can offer you. Eligibility The Henslow Fellowship is open to graduates of any University working at post-doctoral level in the fields of Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Natural Sciences (Biological or Physical) or the Clinical Sciences. There is no age limit, but the Fellowship is intended to support someone at an early stage in their academic career and will normally be awarded to a candidate who has recently obtained their PhD. Stipend and benefits The stipend for a Henslow Fellow will be at point 46 of Hughes Hall’s academic single salary spine as of 1 August 2025 (currently £43,092). The Fellow will be eligible for further automatic annual spine point increases up to point 48 (currently £45,635). The stipend is pensionable within the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). However, the College will not pay bench fees. Please note that no college accommodation is provided. The Fellowship also attracts the following further benefits: Allowance of seven free meals per week including Formal Halls Grants of up to £1,000 per annum for travel and other research expenses Use of College rooms and other facilities Eligible to apply to the Cambridge Philosophical Society for research grants and to become a Life Fellow of the Society without payment of a membership fee Duties and Conditions The successful candidate will be elected to a Class B (Research) Fellowship of Hughes Hall: this involves full membership of the Governing Body and trustee obligations. A Henslow Fellowship is a full-time research post, though the holder will also be permitted to undertake up to four hours of small group undergraduate teaching a week for the College (for which separate payment will be made). They will be required to reside in/close to Cambridge and to participate fully in College life. The appointment will be conditional upon the successful candidate providing satisfactory evidence of the right to work in the United Kingdom in the capacity offered, together with proof of entry clearance or leave to remain. £43,092.
