About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager, European Services, this role is primarily responsible for the European install base but also for remote monitoring of the BESS global fleet. The position includes identifying and carrying out reactive maintenance needs of the containerized systems, answering customer technical requests, and assisting with availability and energy assurance reports.
The Field Service Engineer will establish, promote and maintain good customer and partner relationships, and serve as the primary point of contact for their assigned assets.
Responsibilities
* Manage remote monitoring system for sites
* Identify and resolve site performance issues and identify actions to improve performance
* Safely operate, plan and perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs and accurately maintain related records of work performed
* Ensure compliance with energy/availability performance assurance contracts
* Support and/or perform site performance testing
* Provide advanced troubleshooting and data diagnostics for site issues
* Provide after-hours on-call support on a rotation basis
* Support software and firmware upgrades
* Contribute to product support procedures, training, troubleshooting guides, and other service documentation
* Educate customers and contractors on basic equipment operation, response, and maintenance
* Communicate effectively and collaborate with authorized service providers and subcontractors in a lead role
Education requirements and Work environment
* B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent certifications
* Must have a valid driver's license and passport and be willing/able to drive and fly to remote sites as needed
* Willingness to travel up to 50% both domestic and international as needed
* Flexibility with working off-hours and being part of the off-hours, on-call rotation
Required Skills
* 5+ years direct experience in operations of grid storage and Power Conversion Systems
* Experience with MS office and web conferencing tools
* Practical knowledge of electrical test and measurement equipment
* Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with the ability to read and interpret schematics and drawings
* Experience with troubleshooting hardware and software compatibility issues
* Strong background in health and safety at work protocols
* Experience in remote monitoring operations
* Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking background, especially routing and communications protocols
* Must be able to perform duties with general direction, receiving only general guidance with respect to overall objectives
* Strong analytical skills - ability to define issues, analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and develop sound conclusions
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Troubleshooting skills across a wide range of disciplines
* Ability to lift and carry material is required
Preferred Skills
* High voltage background and relevant qualifications
* Experience with transformer and inverter maintenance
* Experience of working at height
* Working knowledge of communications protocols such as CAN, Modbus, TC/PIP, DNP3
* Knowledge or understanding of generation, transmission, and distribution in electrical grid systems
* Structured problem-solving or LEAN background
* Basic contract administration experience a plus
* 18th Edition wiring regulations or similar
