Taking care of our customers, our communities and each other. We are hiring for a Claim Medical Manager to be based in our Redhill, London, or Manchester office.
In this role, you will receive referrals from our Complex and Central claim handling teams, managing personal injury claims from a rehabilitation perspective, and providing expert medical advice to Claim Professionals, Technical Claim Committees and Business Partners. You will also promote and oversee our pre-claim rehabilitation product referrals, triaging and guiding clinical decisions to help people return to work.
You will engage and collaborate with Claim Professionals, Senior Claim Professionals, Brokers, Policyholders, Underwriters and other Business Partners. Additionally, you will be the primary relationship contact, responsible for monitoring and managing the day to day performance of our rehabilitation providers.
We are looking for a registered nurse or someone with an equivalent qualification with previous experience and expert knowledge of rehabilitation and return-to-work strategies, to lead our Medical Service. You will have excellent analytical, organisational, problem solving, communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills. You will play a key role in shaping medical strategies across Europe.
This role sits within our Claim, Value Added Services team.
Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.

Provide medical skills and expertise to claim professionals.
Interpret routine, complex and unique medical information.
Evaluate medical treatment to determine whether it was/is reasonable, necessary and causally related.
Evaluate future medical needs to assist Claim Professional in understanding a potential settlement value (including a review of life care plans).
Discuss medical information with Claim Professionals to assist in developing a claim resolution strategy.
Identify medical trends for use in developing and recommending training programs.
Respond to claim requests for training as needed.
Assist Claim Professionals in projecting the medical costs of claims.
Provide medical expertise by attending mediations, arbitrations, pre-trial conferences, depositions and trials with Claims staff.
Document medical evaluation and recommendations in claim systems. Attend internal Technical Claim Committee and Roundtable meetings to provide medical expertise.
Ownership for the overall medical strategy through development of focused strategy to address key medical issues and challenges.
Develop strong ties to Enterprise Medical resources to disseminate across Claim Europe offices.
Partner with Underwriting to engage in marketing the Travelers Medical Advantage; educate agents, brokers and risk managers about the benefits of the medical program, use of the pre-claim rehab benefit.
Liaise with Risk Control in relation to relevant issues identified through case referrals.
Support Claim Resolution and Litigation Strategies: provide medical insight as needed.
Assure the claim subject matter experts (SMEs) have the medical support needed, and would assist the claim SME in keeping up to date on new medical advancements, and conduct topical training sessions as needed.
Provide oversight and direction to rehabilitation vendors; including the selection of contracted vendors and implementing a quality review program.

Working Knowledge of United Kingdom and Ireland civil liability legal systems and processes Unconditional Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NWC), or a valid US state nurse license or equivalent.
Maintain Continuous Professional development in accordance with the NMC registration, or US based nurse licensure requirements.
Thorough knowledge of medical causation and remoteness.
Thorough knowledge of medical treatment standards of care across a broad range of injuries and illnesses.
General knowledge of NHS medical care delivery system and pricing.
Intermediate time management and organisational skills preferred.
Intermediate computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook preferred.
