Location: Office base Cardiff but post allows hybrid home/office working
Salary: £25,000 - £28,000

Calon Cymru Fostering is seeking an Education Support Worker to join the team. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and furthering the educational needs of children and young people remotely.

The Role
Calon Cymru Fostering has an opportunity for a passionate, knowledgeable and experienced Education Support Worker to join the Cardiff team, covering south and east Wales.
We are looking for a dedicated and dependable individual to promote and further the educational needs of children and young people in our foster placements. The role involves direct work with children who are not attending school full time, often as a result of behavioural issues linked to early experiences of neglect, trauma and rejection.
The post holder will provide support with schoolwork in the foster home and educational activities in the community. They may be required to work with children in school in order to assist with re-integration into a classroom setting and to support school staff in becoming attachment and trauma aware, in conjunction with Calon Cymru’s therapeutic fostering service.
The successful candidate will need to be able to establish objectives, and plan and deliver a range of support services which promote longevity and stability levels within placements. You will be responsible for maintaining regular contact with foster carers, Virtual School Teams and schools, and attend planning and review meetings, this will involve the monitoring of meeting outcomes/recommendations and ensuring that they are followed up by the relevant individuals.
The role also includes attending foster carer support group meetings at least once a term, to ensure that all concerns regarding educational issues are addressed and contributing to reports on all children and young people who are not in education in your region.
The post holder may occasionally be asked to support foster carers and children for other reasons, not linked to education, as required by the fostering service.
Location
This role is based at our Cardiff office, with travel across the south and east Wales areas required.
What we’re looking for
To apply for this position, it is essential you:
* Hold 5 GCSEs, Grades A*-C including English and Maths (or equivalent)
* Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience of working in an education setting supporting young people
* Ability to liaise with Virtual Schools/ Schools/Local Authority teams
* Ability to provide educational advice and support to foster carers
* Hold a full UK Driving Licence and have a vehicle
* Are willing to undertake an enhanced DBS
