Skilled Cabinetmaker and Joiner wanted: Stockwell, London and Banne, France Ryan Notz, former artist and experienced entrepreneur known for having founded MyBuilder.com, has recently acquired a historic 15,000 sq ft Victorian industrial complex in Stockwell, London. This iconic space is being transformed into a vibrant arts and crafts community, housing artist studios, a woodworking shop, framing workshop, music studios, and an artisanal bakery / café. We are looking for a highly skilled cabinetmaker / joiner to play a key role in this exciting new venture. Job Description This full time, fully employed role as a cabinetmaker and joiner is an opportunity to get involved at the very beginning and be a key part of the team at Hackford Studios. Initially, your role will focus on setting up the woodworking shop from scratch in a dedicated 1,350 sq ft space. The long term vision is to combine the small-scale production of fine furniture with teaching short courses to the public. In the short term, there will be plenty of work needed for the restoration of the property. Doors, windows, furniture and interesting heritage projects like pulley operated lifts and a huge sliding hardwood door to separate two of the most spectacular art studios. The woodworking shop will also support the framing business and the artists by occasionally producing bespoke mouldings and canvas stretchers. This is a varied role with a lot of interesting projects that will require top class skills and a lot of experience, both technical and the people skills required for teaching. From time to time, you will be asked to work in the South of France (poor you). We have a wonderful countryside property in the Ardèche, in the beautiful Cévennes mountains. The property there is already set up with a similarly sized, fully equipped high spec woodworking shop. This property is undergoing renovation as well and will serve as an artist residence when finished. A similar type of work will be required in France and we may also run workshops there in the future. For this reason, it is desirable if you have some French language skills already. If not, the enthusiasm to learn is essential.
