What you'll be doing:
* Provide a timely and proactive analytical service with recommendations in support of Submarine Test and Commissioning and the Barrow site
* Responsible for ensuring professional standards of operation relating to the laboratories are adhered to including good laboratory practice and housekeeping
* Radiation Protection Supervisor
* Represent the Chemistry Laboratory at Progress, Technical and Schedule meetings where appropriate
* Production of written methods or procedures in support of work carried out
* Use of Company Computer Systems software as appropriate
* Lead, develop and motivate reporting and assigned staff through good communication in keeping with company values and policies and procedures
* Carry out annual and half yearly PDR reviews for reporting staff
* Identification of skills/knowledge gaps of Chemists in order to provide further training as a means of development and progression
* To be able to access, have a clear understanding of and apply the Quality and HS&E Management System documentation e.g. Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Risk & COSHH Assessments etc. applicable to the Chemistry Laboratory work scope and to obey all HS&E rules and control measures
* To carry out routine and complex tasks with no supervision. Instruct and mentor less senior members of the team as appropriate
* Deputise for Principal Chemists as and when required
* Organisation of anechoic casting, liaising with Casting and Tiling Teams regarding chemistry support during pours and reporting of results
* Lead and motivate staff in relation to environmental radioactivity analysis of Primary Coolant and liaising with Healthy Physics regarding reporting and disposal
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
* HNC, degree of equivalent qualification(s) relevant to the role
* Industry Experience
Desirable:
* Completion of a Nuclear Chemistry Course

The Engineer - Chemistry Team:
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Chemistry Laboratories supporting our Submarine Build and Test & Commissioning functions for the Astute and Dreadnought Class platforms. You will be performing analysis on a wide variety of fluids, gases and materials, whilst maintaining nuclear safety and assurance for the Test and Commissioning function. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
