This is an exciting new role which will include the management of departmental administrative systems, processes and staff development in line with required internal and external standards. The successful applicant will have experience as a medical secretary, supporting the team with day to day admin tasks, with making informed decisions within area of responsibility, ensuring that agreed standards and targets are met in accordance with departmental, Trust and National standards, policies and procedures (particularly with reference to lung cancer pathways supporting the Trust's 31/62 position working alongside the cancer access team).

Main duties of the job
1. To assume overall responsibility for the administrative business as usual management of the department with specialist knowledge in particular areas in line with service requirements.
2. Acting as the lead for managing recruitment, retention and selection of administrative staff including preparation of the appropriate documentation.
3. Assuming first line management responsibility in dealing with sickness reviews, disciplinary, capability and grievance issues as required.
4. Responsibility for the education and development of the administrative staff including undertaking Personal Development Reviews. Also supporting with review across the T& N footprint.
5. Acting as a resource for staff, advising on National, Trust and Departmental Administration policies and procedures.
6. Participation in the developing and updating of current local and Trust wide training packages in line with National guidance.
7. Participate in strategic, service provider and Trust/Divisional/Departmental meetings, assuming responsibility for administration issues and the impact on resources.
8. Responsibility for departmental performance including participation in the setting of objectives and standards.
9. Representing the department in appropriate forums.
10. Oversight of RTT position for the group and support to Ops and performance manager in ensuring targets are met.
11. Continuous review/updating of administration policies and procedures and supporting documentation and or systems.

1. To provide admin support as required to the Cardiothoracic department
o You will have an active medical secretary role looking after at least 1 consultant
o Cross cover of medical secretary team within department to cover annual leave and sickness
o Line management of cardiothoracic admissions co-ordinator and support of this role to ANPs in their absence
2. To support lung cancer pathway 31/62 targets
o To regularly link with the cancer access team and provide weekly update to lung access meeting
o To support thoracic surgeons with 31/62 target management awareness
o To link with tertiary referral centres (SWFT, GEH) in order to effectively manage the 31/62 referrals across the region and promote timely referrals and onward appointments within the department.
