Team About the role A n exciting opportunity has arisen to join Bury Council s Engineering Services as an Assistant Engineer - Traffic within the Network & Asset Management Group. The Network & Asset Management Group is responsible for Traffic Management, Asset Management and Streetworks. As an Assistant Engineer - Traffic, reporting to the Network management Team Leader, you will handle enquiries and casework relating to traffic management issues across the borough, visiting sites to evaluate problems and determine solutions. You will assist on the delivery of permanent and temporary traffic regulation orders and the evaluation of traffic management plans for street works. You will advise on and assess traffic management for special events held in the borough such as Iron Man, Bury 10k run etc. and you will also provide technical advice to colleagues where required. We are looking for someone with a passion for their work who can help make a positive difference to the residents, visitors and businesses of Bury. You will be able to demonstrate excellent customer service, display strong interpersonal skills with a polite and helpful telephone manner as well as being able to analyse data and work on your own initiative in a very busy service. The Council works on an agile basis, meaning you will balance time between the office and working from home. You should spend at least two days of the week in the office. Educated to level 4 standard in a relevant subject such as traffic management or civil engineering, you will already have some experience working in a traffic management role. You will need to keep up to date with software such as Autocad and Mapinfo, relevant regulations, policy and legislation relating to Traffic Management. You will have a good understanding of standard Microsoft office programs, and the ability to use them to manage, interrogate and prepare reports using data from various systems. You will be required to write reports, emails and letters. Normal hours of work are 37 hours per week based around the usual business working week. Dependent on service requirements, you may be required to work on a rota basis.
