We are a friendly GP surgery looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Temporary/Locum Health Care Assistant who is able to cover maternity leave and training absences at our Practice. We have a very supportive, flexible, forward thinking nursing and HCA team and pride ourselves on strong team working.
We require someone to work a minimum of 20 hours over 3 days per week but also welcome applicants looking for full time hours.
The duration of the temporary cover is noted as 6 months but this can be reduced or extended by mutual agreement and can be discussed in the interview.
Full or part time hours to be negotiated.
Main duties of the job
Only experienced Health Care Assistants at Band 3/4, currently working in General Practice or a similar Healthcare setting should apply.
The applicant must be available to start immediately.
As an experienced Health Care Assistant, you should be experienced and proficient in:
* Shingles, Pneumonia and Flu vaccinations
* Provide ongoing wound care, including leg ulcers, surgical wounds, suture and clip removal
* The collection of specimens and labelling
* Assisting in the provision of phlebotomy services
* The management of laboratory samples for the Practice
* Undertaking well person checks
* Urinalysis
* ECG recording
* Cleaning and sterilising instruments and equipment
* Maintenance of equipment, including keeping records of when external checks are due, e.g. calibration
* The daily recording of refrigerator temperatures
* Ordering of stock and re-stocking clinical rooms

Located in purpose built medical centre in Arnold, Nottingham.
Established Clinical team comprising of two GP Partners, one Nurse Partner, four Salaried GPs, additional GP Registrars/F2s, three Practice Nurses, one Nurse Associate, one trainee Nurse Associate and two Health Care Assistants. This will be in addition to one Senior Practice Pharmacist, one Pharmacy Technician, one First Contact Physiotherapist and one Mental Health Practitioner as part of the PCN.

Remote consultations offered where appropriate using eConsult and ACCURX.
We are a training Practice for GPs and Medical Students, and work hard to ensure that our Nurses can take full advantage of training and development pathways. Job responsibilities
* Documenting patient consultations in the clinical system
* Maintaining appropriate records to ensure continuity and quality of care for patients
* Involvement in Practice development, identifying service changes and in line with clinical needs locally
* Maintaining records of appointments, financial transactions and other administrative duties
* Maintaining skills at the current level and undertaking such training and development as required to maintain personal competence
* Participation in all activities required by CQC registration
* To act in such a manner as to support patients at all times and be mindful of the need to reduce anxiety for patients
* To provide a phlebotomy (blood sampling) service for patients
* Be responsible for processing and management of laboratory samples requested by clinicians with specific responsibility to ensure that the samples are correctly labelled, sent to the laboratory promptly and that data is entered onto the patient's notes
* Be responsible for the correct maintenance and cleaning of equipment
* Be responsible for restocking of all clinical areas and maintaining a stock rotation system
* To maintain an adequate amount of clinical supplies and health promotion materials as agreed with the clinical team
* To obtain, process and/or use information in line with the GDPR requirements
* Ensure that drug/vaccine refrigerators are at the correct temperature on a daily basis and maintain the Vaccine Cold Chain documented record according to Practice Guidelines
* To maintain health information notice board in line with national/local health promotion campaigns
* To attend relevant meetings as required
* To immediately report any safeguarding or compliance concerns
* To review patients regarding:
o Complex wounds
o Ear syringing
o ABPI
o Pre-diabetes checks
o Diabetic foot checks
o Cytology paperwork to include Open Exeter, recalls and fail safe
o Stick rotation
o HMBP
o CHD obs (height/weight/blood pressure) and liaison with a clinician if any concerns
o Hypertension obs (height/weight/blood pressure) and liaison with a clinician if any concerns
o Rheumatology obs (height/weight/blood pressure) and liaison with a clinician if any concerns
* To act as a chaperone as requested by clinicians
* To function as an integral part of the Highcroft Surgery team
* To participate in the induction programme of new staff joining Highcroft Surgery
* Participate in developing the philosophy, goals and objectives for healthcare provided by Highcroft Surgery
* Participate in patient audits
* Ensure that patients rights are protected
* To have knowledge of and act at all times within the boundaries of Health and Safety legislation, Data Protection Acts and Care Quality Commission compliance requirements
* Provide information for a DBS check, and inform the Practice of any incident that may change the DBS status
* Be responsible for your own Health & Safety
* Work within your personal competence
* Promote and participate in a high standard of care within Highcroft Surgery
* Participate in taking care of your own Health & Safety. Ensure that you do not do anything to compromise the health and safety of either your colleagues or yourself
* Give agreed notice of periods of absence and leave

Person Specification
Experience
* Must have Health Care Assistant experience
* Must have undertaken a range of Health Care Assistant duties such as taking blood, performing ECG testing and taking observations
* Good understanding of spoken and written English
* Desire to develop skills and qualifications under continuous professional development
* Work within teams
* Flexible approach and ability to demonstrate empathy
* Maintain accurate records
* Be organised and able to prioritise tasks
* Basic IT skills (MS Office, Internet)
