Job Title : Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP) Location : Manchester Employment Type : Full-time About the Role We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP) to join a thriving law firm based in Manchester. The COLP will play a pivotal role in ensuring the firm’s compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, safeguarding ethical standards, and mitigating risk across the practice. This is an excellent opportunity for a compliance professional with a strong understanding of legal regulations, particularly those pertaining to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). Key Responsibilities Oversee and manage the firm’s compliance with regulatory requirements, including SRA Code of Conduct and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations. Implement and maintain compliance policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with best practices and regulatory standards. Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and compliance reviews across departments to identify areas for improvement. Act as the primary point of contact for compliance-related inquiries and provide guidance on regulatory issues to staff and partners. Investigate and report breaches or issues, taking corrective action to maintain compliance. Prepare and submit necessary regulatory filings, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to relevant authorities. Provide training and updates to staff on regulatory changes and compliance matters. Requirements Previous experience in a compliance role, ideally within a law firm or legal setting. In-depth knowledge of SRA regulations, AML, GDPR, and other relevant compliance frameworks. Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to interpret complex regulations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear guidance to staff at all levels. Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload effectively.
