Calling passionate individuals! We seek a dedicated and experienced professional to fill a full-time position as the Pastoral Support Officer.
This non-teaching role is based on-site at our partner secondary school in Derby. You'll play a vital role in shaping the student experience for a specific year group.
Your Responsibilities:
* Student Wellbeing: Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students, with a particular focus on those facing disadvantage, SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), child protection concerns, or looked-after children.
* Academic Progress: Contribute to effective curriculum delivery, including options, work-related learning, and induction programs specific to each key stage.
* Attendance & Engagement: Monitor punctuality and attendance, collaborating with form tutors to address persistent absences. You'll also support interviews with students and parents to encourage cooperation and offer support.
* Positive Relationships: Build strong relationships with parents, fostering open communication and active involvement in their child's education.
* Behaviour Management: Uphold positive behaviour for learning, addressing issues swiftly and effectively in collaboration with the wider pastoral team. You'll also support and implement the school's anti-bullying policy.
* External Collaboration: Liaise with external agencies to ensure students receive the best possible support, including compiling reports when necessary.
* Transition Support: Collaborate with internal and external staff to ensure smooth transitions between year groups (KS4-5, and KS5 onwards).
* Student Availability: Be a consistent source of support for students throughout the day, particularly during lunch and after-school hours.
* Recognition & Reward: Utilize the school's reward system effectively to motivate and celebrate student achievements.
* Student Safety: Ensure student safety at all times, both in and out of the classroom. This includes supervision during breaks and lunchtimes.
* Restorative Practices: Facilitate restorative conversations between students to promote conflict resolution.

Experience required:
* Proven track record supporting students' well-being in a pastoral role or student-facing environment.

* Skilled problem-solver with a proven ability to de-escalate conflict and find effective solutions.
* Highly organized and time-managed, ensuring efficient support for students and colleagues.
* Deep understanding of safeguarding policies, committed to student safety and well-being.
* Strong awareness of student development and the challenges they face, tailoring support accordingly.
