An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic staff nurse to join our busy Surgical Day Case ward, located in the main hospital.
The post holder is responsible for the pre- and post-operative care in Surgical Day Care and Surgical Admission Lounge. Assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in the ward.
The primary focus of the post is to ensure that all patients and families receive high quality patient centered care, reflecting the Trust objectives, values and vision.
At all times the practitioner will act as an advocate for patients and families, and will be a front-line advocate for the Trust.
To provide effective clinical and leadership for their designated area of responsibility, ensuring that high standards of clinical practice are adhered to at all times.
They will have extensive knowledge of paediatric surgery - pre- and post-operative care and be actively involved in the teaching and assessing of junior staff in line with current National and local standards and best practice.
They will be responsible for their own professional conduct in line with NMC Code of Conduct. They will adhere to and understand all Trust and local policies and procedures.
You will need to have excellent communication skills, be well organised and able to respond to the various demands of the role. A training and development programme is offered.
Main duties of the job
1. Accurately assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the holistic pre and post-operative care needs of patients using an extensive knowledge base and range of skills within the SDC/SAL department.
2. Deliver excellent standards of clinical practice to all patients and support colleagues to deliver the best possible outcomes and experience for patients.
3. Act as patient's advocate and ensure patients' wishes, choices and beliefs are taken into account in the decision making process as necessary in collaboration with the family.
4. Using evidence based best practice maintain safe and effective patient care, ensuring that working practices conform to local and national policies and procedures.
5. Act as a clinical reference point and subject matter expert for designated area of responsibility.
6. Ensure the WHO safety checklist is completed for every theatre list and patient undergoing a surgical or anaesthetic procedure.
7. Develop and maintain local and national standards and ensure practice is evidence based.
8. Maintain accurate and legible records of care in line with Trust policy and NMC Code of Conduct.
9. Be involved in monitoring and promoting high standards of care, including audit of quality indicators, and devising action plans to address any deficits identified.
10. Maintain a culture in which infection control is intrinsic to care delivery, and is monitored in line with Trust policy.
11. To ensure knowledge of the current national and local regulations.
