About YSJ
York St John is an ambitious, modern university at the heart of historic York and there has never been a more exciting time to join us. As one of the fastest growing universities in the UK over recent years, we have a new strategy for the next decade, emphasising our commitment to widening opportunity through the power of education and contributing our talents to creating a fairer world, and a more prosperous region.
The Department
Initial Teacher Education (ITE) is part of the School of Education, Language and Psychology. Within ITE we offer both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including a three-year BA Primary Education programme and a one-year PGCE Primary programme.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic full time Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education (Primary), who is able to teach English as a core specialist subject with the ability to teach other subject areas across our primary programmes. Primary school experience, with working knowledge and understanding of the national curriculum, is necessary alongside experience of working with student teachers, either in a primary school setting or within an ITE department within Higher Education.
Required Skills and Experience
It is essential that applicants possess a combination of both professional and academic qualifications. The post holder should therefore have qualified teacher status (QTS), teaching experience in a primary school, and experience of working with ITE students/programmes. The ability to support teaching in wider Professional Studies would also be welcome. Ideally applicants will have a doctorate and be research active.
The majority of your work will involve teaching in a variety of settings, including small group tutorials/seminars and lectures; assessment; and the provision of pastoral and academic support to student teachers. You will also be expected to join one of our research development groups.
