We are looking for either a Band 5 Occupational Therapist wishing to take their next steps on the career ladder or an existing Band 6 looking for a new challenge to join our forward-thinking Occupational Therapy Team, who are passionate about the evolving role of an OT in the rehabilitation and D2A setting.
You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of patients who will present with many complex needs throughout their hospital stay. Within the Team you will work alongside an existing integrated multi-disciplinary team, using a fusion-skilled hybrid approach, focusing on high quality care, promoting comprehensive assessments, and supporting hospital teams in appropriate admission avoidances over a seven-day service. A willingness to work flexibly and to undertake tasks traditionally allocated to specific disciplines are all requirements of the role. As a Band 6 therapist you will be supporting and developing rotational Band 5 therapists. The role also involves supervising therapy support staff and educating therapy students on placement. The Occupational Therapist will be based within the Community Hospital team (based mainly at Samuel Johnson Hospital but also Sir Robert Peel Hospital), working within the multidisciplinary team, responding to referrals generated by the ward or by the Occupational Therapist screening the referrals into the unit which the Therapy team are responsible for.
The Occupational Therapist will carry out skilled work in respect of the assessment and treatment of patients with complex and/or chronic conditions, provide specialist skills which enable patients to explore, achieve and maximise their independence and maintain quality of life in the activities of daily living - areas of personal care, domestic, leisure and productive activities.
Work independently and be responsible for own individual caseload.
The Occupational Therapist will liaise closely with the senior Occupational Therapist from the wider Occupational Therapy team (and receive supervision in complex cases). The Occupational Therapist will also liaise with other professional groups within the Trust and with external agencies as necessary.
