Main duties of the job This role of Distribution Assistant is imperative to the operation of the hospital as the majority of goods used in the hospital are processed by the Supply team – operations can’t happen without Distribution Assistants delivering the right goods to the right team at the right time – it would not be unusual for you to walk in the region of 20,000 steps in a day The role is 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday 09:30 to 18:00. Items are delivered to wards and other areas in cages or on pallets – in the last 12 months the team have delivered over 80,000 parcels via 5000 cages. By Bringing Together The Procurement And Supply Chain Teams Across UHS And HHFT, We're Able To Deliver Significant Value To The Two Largest Acute NHS Hospitals In Hampshire By Leveraging combined procurement volumes with our vendors Addressing more strategic procurement projects by deploying staff effectively Creating subject matter experts in key areas of spend Building resilience in our supply chains by working together Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities The role is really rewarding as you will have a direct impact on patient care by – Delivering take home drugs from the pharmacy to wards in a timely manner – this means that patient can go home and a new patient can be admitted Taking repaired electronic equipment back to the wards so it can quickly be put back into action Delivering fluids to wards – up to 300 boxes a day Making daily deliveries to A&E and Intensive Care Collecting drugs from radiotherapy and taking them to the nuclear medicine team – ensuring cancer patients have access to the right drugs at the right time Providing cover for the pharmacy distribution team during breaks Taking stock to wards so ward staff can concentrate on taking care of patients. Person specification Physical requirements of the post Essential criteria Lifting and handling boxes of varying shapes, sizes and weights (up to 20kgs) Manoeuvre cages/pallet trucks/flatbed trolleys of goods (up to 180kgs) safely through busy corridors from Stores area to ward or department. Desirable criteria Basic Manual Handling techniques Qualifications / Training Required Essential criteria English and Maths GCSE (or equivalent qualification) Basic level of experience of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel. Good literacy and numeracy skills including clear verbal communication skills Previous or relevant experience necessary Essential criteria Experience or working in Stores / Distribution services role and an operational environment, contributing to operational objectives. Experience of using moving and handling equipment such as, roll cages, pallet trucks and flatbed trollies. Vehicle Banksman experience in a Loading Bay environment.
