Do you want to work in a role that makes a difference to the people of Stockton-on-Tees who live in privately rented accommodation? Well look no further - this is the opportunity for you!
The Housing & A Fairer Stockton-on-Tees service are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated individual to join the Selective Licensing team as a Selective Licence Compliance Officer.
The team is committed to improving housing conditions, management practices, anti-social behaviour, and environmental crime in the private rented sector, protecting residents within our area, ensuring everyone has a safe and well-maintained home and environment. We take a twin track approach, working positively with responsible landlords and tenants, while taking strong action against those who neglect their responsibilities.
The emphasis in this role is to investigate non-compliant landlords, taking the lead on legal casework related to the Selective Licensing scheme, providing support in respect of progressing legal proceedings and enforcement, and assisting with developing case files.
You will play a lead role on the enforcement of selective licensing issues, requiring compliance and enforcement action in line with the principles of the Council's Regulatory Services Policy, and attend prosecution and appeal hearings before the Courts or Tribunals as required.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
1. Experience of preparing and producing witness statements, case files, and attending court or tribunals.
2. Working directly or in a closely related field within private sector housing, legal, enforcement, or licensing.
3. An awareness of the legislation, regulations, and codes of practice relevant to taking enforcement action in a variety of practical situations.
4. Experience in the production of statutory notices and other legal documents.
5. A track record of directing investigations resulting in prosecutions or other legal sanctions in accordance with relevant procedural and evidential rules.
Good interpersonal skills, along with a flexible and professional approach to work, are essential.
This post is fixed term until 30th June 2028.
