About your new role
Our approach is focused on solving our client's legal problems as quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively as possible. We are brand leaders in defendant litigation services with in-depth expertise in all types of claims including motor, public liability and employers' liability. This role is working primarily for a commercial client in the utility sector. You will be required to advise and handle a wide range of liability claims including EL accidents and also PL claims including slips and trips as well as Pre-Action Disclosure applications. In addition this client also requires advice on non-injury claims such as property damage caused by undertaking highway works as well as damage caused by water escapes. We are currently recruiting for a NQ - 4 YR PQE Solicitor to join our team in Birmingham.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Manage a caseload of non-litigated and litigated claims including but not limited to property damage, employers liability and public liability claims.
2. Liaise with various parties such as other solicitors, insurers, experts, counsel and clients.
3. Control Case Manager diary and action lists.
4. Attend at court hearings, meetings with counsel as appropriate.
5. Draft various documents such as letters and reports.
6. Satisfy standards of client care in accordance with guidelines and directions.
7. Complete Client MI procedures.
8. Achieve set financial and chargeable targets.
9. Comply with relevant rules, policies and procedures.
10. Keep up to date with legal developments.
11. Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values.
12. Assist the team with networking and attending client meetings.
13. Attend utilities/energy sector group meetings.
This list is not intended to be exhaustive and you will be expected to perform other duties and have other responsibilities that fall within the wider remit of the role.
About You
1. For the NQ role 0 - 4 YR PQE is essential.
2. Preferably experience of defending litigated claims but candidates who have Claimant litigation experience will also be considered.
3. Excellent knowledge of the CPR and litigation.
4. Knowledge of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and the Water Act 2014 (desirable but not essential).
5. An interest in working in the energy/utilities sector.
6. Excellent organisation skills.

8. Excellent communication skills.
9. Excellent IT skills.
10. Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets.
11. Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative.
12. Flexible approach to work and a willingness to travel.
