We are a friendly and enthusiastic team looking to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Communication Support Worker to work as part of the nursery team, improving outcomes for a child with a hearing impairment, supporting the childs access to the learning environment and fostering independence with the aim of enabling access to the curriculum and facilitating full inclusion into nursery life. To facilitate communication between the child, their peer group and mainstream staff and helping the child develop communication, language and social skills. Demonstrating initiative and creativity to provide a caring and stimulating environment which encourages the child’s all-round development and meet their individual needs.
To be considered for the role of Nursery Practitioner, you will need;
* BSL Level 2 (Level 1 would be accepted but a commitment to level 2 would be essential)
* NVQ L2 OR L3 or equivalent childcare qualification is desirable
* Prepared to take professional development as appropriate
* Knowledge & understanding of childcare & development
* Ability to moderate language using sign, speech and the written form to meet a range of different communication styles and needs
* Good communication skills with adults and young children
* Ability to maintain records & write accurate reports
* Ability to work as part of a team & use own initiative

Responsibilities;
* To adhere to the Nursery’s policies and procedures at all times
* To carry out other duties and responsibilities as requested by your Team Leader or the Nursery Manager/Assistant Manager/Deputy Manager/Third in Charge
* To attend staff meetings and parents’ evenings as requested, be involved in fundraising events and assist with the promotion of the Nursery as required
* To assist with creating a stimulating and attractive play environment within the Nursery.
* Ensure you present a professional image during your working hours and whenever you are in uniform.
* Always behave in an appropriate manner around children – set a good example and be aware of your body language and the words and tone of voice that you use.
* Ensure your relationships with parents are professional at all times..
* Ensure that the uniform provided to you is cleaned and looked after and returned to the Nursery on termination of employment.
* Wear the protective clothing and equipment provided for your use.
* To attend training sessions as required and to keep your professional skills updated
* To participate in supervisions and regular performance reviews
* To work with a child who has a hearing impairment on a 1:1, supporting them to communicate
* Support the child to access the curriculum and achieve their objectives in their EHCP
* To modify and clarify language within the nursery.
* Following up on the introduction of new signs, key concepts and new vocabulary.
* Promote independence and employing strategies to recognise and praise/reward achievement of self reliance
* To communicate effective with outside agencies in the support of the child
* Contribute to reports, attend meetings and facilitate communication as the child grows in the setting.
* To be aware of the whole nursery and work flexibly to meet the needs of the children, their parents, the staff team and the business as a whole.

Pay: Up to £11.44 per hour
