Job Description
The Civil Engineer is the technical lead reviewing and accepting the changes to the design raised by the site contractor, responsible for managing interfaces between the construction contractors and the designers. Reporting to the Area Lead, you will ensure delivery of:
1. Supporting the new nuclear build projects, operations and decommissioning is a thorough demonstrable and sustainable technical understanding of the plant, its systems and the associated safety case.
2. Responsible for the management of the site construction configuration.
3. When deemed necessary, design issues are forwarded to designer representative sitting on site for resolution.
4. Managing design changes, reviewing and accepting some site specific design documents.
The Civil Engineer is required to provide technical expertise to ensure the review, acceptance and technical delivery of design changes during construction of the building will thrive in this role. The successful role holder will have a working knowledge of concrete design codes such as Eurocode 2. We’ll value your existing skills and experience while providing the opportunity to work closely with the Design Team and Construction team to maintain the technical quality of responses (content / consistency / exhaustiveness / accuracy) and construction safety. You will demonstrate accuracy, tenacity, diplomacy, results-oriented and be a team player, draft programmes and action plans in order to deliver specific project / assignment objectives.
Principal Accountabilities
1. The approval of design changes proposed by the contractor or designer through Request for Information, field Change Request or Non-Conformance Report.
2. Support the team in the handover of Design Packages released for construction and initiated the delegated responsibilities through this process.
3. Ensure that processes comply with project quality procedures.
4. Management of CDM aspects relating to the design changes during the construction period, including discharging the role of principle designer.
5. Responsible for the nuclear safety acceptance of the design by carrying out surveillance on the design changes during construction.
6. Safety case/golden thread: in the review and acceptance process, ensure the high-level safety case and the design have a clear golden thread to support operations.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Bachelors / Masters degree in Civil or Structural engineering
* Design process and design activities (preferably in nuclear industry)
* Working knowledge of Eurocodes for Concrete design
* Design with hazard & accidental safety cases.
* Working within UK CDM regulations and in a highly regulated industry.
* Delivery-oriented and ability to set action plans and meet deadlines.
* Ability to work independently and under pressure.
* Proactive, pragmatic and adopting a practical approach to resolve issues.
Desirable:
* PWR technology design, safety case or operation.
* Working towards / Chartered Engineer with either ICE or IStructE.
* Working knowledge of construction change procedures.
* Experience in the use of ETC-C and nuclear Industry.
* Working in large-scale, multi-cultural industrial project, safety case architecture.
* Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
* Understanding of Contract Management
* Commercial awareness with an understanding of the impact of change.
* Familiarity with safety case process and design substantiation.
