Job overview
MacDonald Ward is an acute 28 bedded Complex Care Frailty ward caring for elderly patients. The team is both friendly and supportive, with a strong commitment to providing a high standard of care. We are looking for highly motivated, dynamic and passionate Health Care Assistants.
You will care for frailty patients where staff can learn specialty care for those who may have multiple medical conditions, are on multiple medications and often require specialist support at home or in their care homes. Staff will also support patients who are acutely unwell, may have poor recognition (dementia & delirium), difficulty in walking, falls and frailty.
We are looking for experienced Clinical Support Workers; hospital experience is desirable but not essential. A minimum of GCSE English and Maths grade C or 4 or Functional skills for English/Maths, Care Certificate and/or NVQ2 in health and social care or the equivalent qualification is required. Your role will be to provide delegated clinical procedures such as removal of cannula, undertake physiological observations, escort patients from clinical areas, provide personal care and accurately document all interventions. You will also be responsible for booking Hospital transport to take patients home.
Main duties of the job
1. Undertaking personal care duties, such as toileting, bathing and dressing / undressing.
2. Assist with eating and drinking in line with care plan from Registered Professional including support with feeding and recording of diet and fluids.
3. Assist patients to achieve rest and sleep by attending to their comfort needs when required.
4. Supporting patients to maintain function and normal activities of daily living where safe to do so to prevent deconditioning whilst in hospital.
5. Promote dignity, respect and privacy in the delivery of care duties.
6. To undertake patients' vital signs, blood pressure, pulse, pulse oximetry, height, weight, neurological assessment, ECG, respirations, urinalysis, blood glucose, pregnancy testing and escalate concerns in line with policy.
7. Recognition of deteriorating patient and escalation process.
8. Provide delegated clinical procedures such as insertion/removal of cannula, venepuncture, wound assessment and simple dressings.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* GCSE English and Maths grade C or 4 or Functional skills for English/Maths
* Care Certificate
Desirable criteria
* 5 GCSE grade 4 or C and above or equivalent
* Evidence of mandatory and statutory essential training skills, for example, Basic Life Support, manual handling, infection control, fire etc.
* Education and training to NVQ level 3/Work based diploma or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
* Relevant experience of working in Health or Social Care Environment delivering personal care
Desirable criteria
* Relevant experience working in the NHS
