Job Purpose:
The role of a GCSE/A-Level Tutor at Swindon Tuition Centre involves delivering high-quality tuition in core subjects to students preparing for their GCSE and A-Level examinations. Tutors will work with students on a 1:1 or small group basis, providing tailored support to enhance academic progress and confidence. This position is term-time only, with the potential for additional community tuition after school hours.
Job Requirements:
* Planning and delivering tuition lessons in GCSE and/or A-Level subjects (Maths, English, and/or Science) on a 1:1 or small group basis.
* Supporting students of varying abilities, including those with SEND, SEMH needs, or requiring additional academic support.
* Safeguarding children and young people while promoting emotional well-being, including keeping attendance records up to date.
* Assessing student needs and adapting lessons accordingly to ensure personalised learning and exam success.
* Preparing students for GCSE and A-Level exams, including support with revision strategies, past papers, and exam techniques.
* Managing classroom behaviour effectively using de-escalation techniques and encouraging engagement in learning.
* Collaborating with the Curriculum Manager and other staff to create an engaging and structured learning environment.
* Setting realistic and aspirational targets to track student progress and achievement.
* Establishing positive relationships with students, parents/carers, and external professionals.
* Being flexible and adaptable to meet timetable needs, including working across our three Swindon centres (Old Town, Swindon Town Centre, and Gorse Hill) or offsite where required.
* Keeping up to date with the National Curriculum and exam board specifications.
* Providing constructive feedback through marking, lesson discussions, and written reports.
* Using a variety of teaching resources and assessment methods to support student progress.
* Communicating professionally with parents, carers, and external agencies both verbally and via email.
* Undertaking additional duties as required to support the running of the centre.
* Participating in continuing professional development (CPD), including regular in-house training.

Person Specification
A commitment to raising educational standards for all young people.
Experience of working successfully with young people, including those with challenging behaviour.
Ability to motivate and manage students of different abilities.
Confident in teaching GCSE and/or A-Level Maths, English, and/or Science, with the ability to support target setting.
Awareness of child safeguarding practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Experience of identifying student needs and planning targeted intervention.
Ability to take initiative and work independently when required.
Competent in using basic IT software (Google Drive, Word, Excel, data entry, etc.) and completing admin duties promptly.
Own transport and willingness to travel between tuition locations if required.
