M&E Commercial Manager
London and Home Counties
I'm working with an engineering services-led principal contractor that specialises in designing, building, and maintaining complex buildings with a high concentration of mechanical and electrical systems—think data centres and other mission-critical environments. They also have a strong presence in high-tech, pharmaceutical, and healthcare sectors, delivering projects that require real engineering expertise. Their reputation is built on consistently delivering high-quality projects, which is why so many of their clients have stuck with them over the years. Despite increasing competition, they continue to grow, and they're now looking for a Senior Commercial Manager to join their team.
The Role
This is a key role within the business, giving you the opportunity to take ownership of high-profile M&E projects while shaping the future of their commercial function. You'll be leading procurement, commercial strategy, and risk management across Data Centre, hotels, offices, and retail sectors, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget. You'll be working closely with clients, consultants, and project teams, as well as managing supply chains and negotiating contracts.
What You'll Be Doing:
1. Developing M&E cost models, feasibility studies, and pricing schedules for new and refurbishment projects.
2. Managing procurement processes for main contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and service providers.
3. Overseeing contract administration (NEC3 & 4, FIDIC, and bespoke contracts).
4. Handling risk management and mitigation strategies.
5. Leading commercial and contractual negotiations.
6. Managing change control processes.
7. Providing commercial advice to senior management and project teams.
8. Mentoring and developing quantity surveying staff.
What They're Looking For:
They're looking for someone with solid experience in a Senior Commercial Manager role, ideally in M&E, construction, or engineering. You'll need strong contract knowledge (NEC3 & 4, FIDIC, and bespoke contracts), a proven track record of delivering large-scale projects, experience managing procurement and supply chain negotiations, a strong understanding of cost control, forecasting, and risk management, and leadership experience, particularly in mentoring teams.
What They're Offering
The package on offer includes a £110,000 - £120,000 salary, an electric car or car allowance, flexible working and hybrid options, a performance-based bonus (which has been consistently paid for the last 18 years), private medical insurance, and 25 days holiday plus bank holidays. This company is expanding organically, and this role has been created as part of that growth, so there will be genuine opportunities for progression.
