The Vale of Glamorgan Council is looking for a motivated individual to join the Fleet and Vehicle Maintenance team as a Team Leader – Fleet. The role will primarily involve managing a team of highly skilled staff responsible for vehicle and plant maintenance and ensuring an efficient service provision within the workshop.

About the role
Pay Details: Grade 8 SCP 26 – 30, £36,124 - £39,513 pro.rata
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours per week
Main Place of Work: The Alps Depot, Wenvoe CF5 6AA
Temporary Reason: N/A
Description: The Individual will be responsible for and manage the day to day workload of the shift, allocating work to a small team of motor fitters ensuring the repairs and routine maintenance on a full range of cars, heavy commercial, light commercial and plant equipment and MOT testing is completed in a timely fashion and in line with DVSA standards.
About you
You will need:
1. Experience in the operations and working practices of a Council’s vehicle and plant repair workshop.
2. Be able to convey and submit short reports on the condition of vehicles and components.
3. Experience of the essential requirements in the preparation of vehicles for Class 4, 5 and 7 and HGV MOT Test.
4. Experience in vehicle inspection to meet the standards set by DVSA
5. Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety Legislation
6. Mechanical knowledge of a broad range of vehicles, machinery equipment and tools
7. Knowledge of diagnostic equipment
8. Skilled in disciplines of the repair of light and heavy goods vehicles also plant and ground maintenance equipment.
9. Ability to accept responsibility for staff and resources of a significant nature.
10. Good organisational skills
11. NVQ Level 3 or City and Guilds Motor Vehicle Craft Studies Part 1, 2 and 3 or equivalent.
12. Holder for a valid VOSA MOT tester’s certificate or the capability to attain a certificate.
13. Health and Safety Certificate to a minimum standard or IOSH Working Safely or equivalent or the capability to attain a certificate within 2 years after probationary period.
14. Commitment to undertake further training for professional development and enhance knowledge of ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV) technologies
15. Able to motivate and work independently or in a group.
16. Ability to motivate and communicate effectively with staff.
17. Ability to communicate effectively with the public.
18. Full Driving Licence with a minimum of B Group.
19. Ability to drive/travel throughout the Vale or between locations as appropriate.
20. To work variable working patterns as required by the needs of the service.
