Job Description
We are seeking a new Consultant colleague to join the Oncology team based at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust specialising in Melanoma and Lung Cancer initially offering one year fixed term locum to start as soon as possible pending substantive recruitment, which would involve at least one of these specialties in a part-time or full time capacity.
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust provides oncological treatments for patients diagnosed with lung cancer at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth, and St Richards Hospital Chichester (West Sussex). Each site runs a separate Lung MDT, but there is combined Oncological team working across both sites. Clinics run at each hospital site with chemotherapy treatment day units at each hospital. All radiotherapy is delivered at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, with Lung SABR now fully established including SABR for Oligometastases. The candidate will principally support the lung service in Portsmouth to cover a sabbatical, but options to work at St Richards Hospital are also possible.
The Portsmouth and Chichester MDT’s have a thoracic surgeon present and run local clinics. Thoracic surgery is undertaken at Southampton and St Georges. The Respiratory teams provide full interventional services, and there are excellent CNS teams supporting both sites.
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust Cancer Centre provides melanoma services to the region (Portsmouth, Chichester, and the Isle of Wight) based out of Portsmouth at Queen Alexandra Hospital, with patients having treatment at the day units at Queen Alexandra Hospitals and Fareham Community Hospital and there is an established homecare service for immunotherapy. The dermatology service supports the Skin MDT, has a Mohs service for non-melanoma excision and there is excellent plastic surgery on site. CNS services support melanoma, as does an AOS unit staffed by advancing nursing practitioners and doctors running 0800-2000 7 days a week.
There is a well-established and enthusiastic Oncological Research team supporting and encouraging clinical trials, and links with the University of Portsmouth. Participation in and leading research is strongly encouraged as is the development of academic roles.
Key Responsibilities:
The appointee will join the Oncology Team as a Medical Oncology Consultant and will be expected to participate in all facets of departmental activity.
A full-time locum Consultant Oncologist post of 10 PA is available, covering the job plan as enclosed. A part-time appointment would be considered with appropriate adjustment of job plan.

* Fully registered with GMC with a licence to practice.
* Entry on the GMC Medical Oncology Specialist Register, CCT (or within 6 months at interview), Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR), Portfolio Programme, or GMC recognised equivalent training.
Desirable
* MRCP or equivalent general medical experience
* BSc

* Evidence of expertise in the areas of special interest relevant to the Job Plan.

* Breadth of experience in and outside sub-speciality.
