The Directorate brings together services that provide consistent, quality support to Council colleagues, based on professional expertise and commitment to excellence. It helps ensure that the Council's ambitions for Fife and its workforce, are delivered and managed in a way that supports employees, enables new ways of working, makes the most of technology and helps make best use of resources. The Risk Management Team provides a comprehensive insurance service, including insuring the Council’s assets and potential liabilities and administering all liability, property and motor claims made by and against the Council. It also manages the Council’s Insurance Fund. The Team facilitates development and maintenance of the Council’s corporate risk management arrangements, whilst at the same time supporting Council Directorates and Services to develop their risk management arrangements locally and embed them into everyday operations. This post is 36 hours per week (full-time), working Monday – Friday. After a period of training in the office, there will be an option to apply for blended working, which will include working in the office for up to 50% of the working week and the option to work from home for the remainder. You’ll be provided with appropriate equipment to work from home. The Council is looking to appoint an Insurance Assistant who’ll support the Risk Management Team Leader, Insurance Officer and wider team to provide a comprehensive insurance service, including maintenance of an extensive insurance programme providing financial protection to the Council; the provision of a claim handling service to internal and external customers; and working with Services to identify risks, manage and reduce the Council’s exposure to insurable risks. On a day-to-day basis the postholder will: Process a variety of insurance claims, payments, information requests and update insurance policy, property, and contents records, ensuring that all records are maintained in accordance with record and information management legislation/policies. Reconcile the Insurance Fund financial ledger to the claims database and on an annual basis, calculate insurance premium recharges and assist with the preparation of year end accounts using MS Office and the Council’s financial information system, Oracle. You’ll obtain insurance returns, prepare statistical reports and participate and assist with delivery of specialised projects such as risk improvements. The Person You will either have 2 Highers (or equivalent) or three years’ experience in an insurance or risk management environment. You will have experience of working in an office, carrying out administrative and financial work, using IT systems. You will be a team player who can work independently, planning, and prioritising your own workload and consistently produce accurate and high-quality work on time. Experience of working in an insurance environment is desirable. As a customer facing member of the team, you will take ownership, and be solution focused, representing the team in a positive manner, ensuring that enquiries are satisfactorily resolved within deadlines, ensuring that information is shared appropriately and identifying any matters that should be escalated to a senior member of staff. Your excellent communication and engagement skills will maintain and enhance a positive team spirit and relationships with key stakeholders at all levels, including internal and external customers and insurance and risk management suppliers.
