Key Responsibilities: Lead the development and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with relevant legislation and best practices. Conduct and oversee comprehensive health and safety audits and risk assessments for council properties, with a focus on educational institutions. Provide expert advice and guidance on health and safety matters to staff, management, and external stakeholders. Develop and deliver training sessions and workshops on health and safety topics, including incident reporting, risk management, and emergency procedures. Investigate accidents and incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the council and its associated schools. Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure compliance with health and safety standards. Prepare and present health and safety reports to senior management and the council board. Manage and mentor a team of health and safety advisors, ensuring effective implementation of health and safety initiatives. Qualifications and Experience: NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety. Proven experience in a health and safety management role, preferably within a local authority or educational setting. Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices. Experience in conducting risk assessments and audits, particularly in schools and educational environments. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and engage staff at all levels. Demonstrated leadership and team management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and priorities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Desirable: IOSH Managing Safely certification. Experience in developing and delivering health and safety training programs. Familiarity with ISO 45001 standards.
