About the Role As a Lift Engineer moving into consultancy, you will combine your in-depth technical knowledge of lift systems with a consultative approach to assist clients in improving, installing, or maintaining lift systems in their buildings. This hybrid role involves both engineering and advisory responsibilities, requiring both technical skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: Client Consultation: Provide expert advice to clients on lift system needs, from new installations to upgrades and retrofits. Assess and understand the specific requirements of clients in various industries, including residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Lift System Audits and Assessments: Conduct audits of existing lift systems to assess safety, efficiency, and compliance with local regulations. Identify areas for improvement and recommend cost-effective solutions to optimize performance. Design and Planning: Work with clients and design teams to develop and plan lift systems for new projects, ensuring they meet regulatory standards, operational needs, and budget constraints. Advise on modern lift technologies and innovations, offering guidance on the most suitable systems for the client’s needs. Compliance and Safety Management: Ensure that all lift installations and operations comply with health and safety standards and industry regulations. Prepare documentation for inspections, certifications, and regulatory compliance. Training and Knowledge Transfer: Provide training to clients or their staff on lift operations, safety measures, and maintenance best practices. Share industry insights and help clients stay updated on the latest trends, standards, and technologies in lift engineering. Project Management and Coordination: Assist clients with project planning, coordination, and overseeing lift installations or modifications. Manage or collaborate with other engineers, contractors, and vendors to ensure smooth project delivery. Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Provide troubleshooting support to clients experiencing technical issues with their lift systems. Recommend solutions for system failures or inefficiencies and help implement corrective actions. Business Development and Networking: Build relationships with new and existing clients to expand consultancy services. Attend industry conferences, meetings, and workshops to keep up with new trends and developments in the lift engineering and consultancy fields. Skills and Qualifications: Technical Background: Proven experience as a Lift Engineer with a strong understanding of lift systems, mechanical and electrical components. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualifications in Lift Engineering or related fields. Consultancy Skills: Ability to assess and recommend improvements to lift systems from both a technical and business perspective. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to propose tailored solutions to client needs. Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Project Management: Experience managing projects or coordinating with project teams to deliver lift system installations or upgrades. Organizational skills to juggle multiple client projects simultaneously. Customer Focus: Ability to build rapport and trust with clients by providing clear, actionable advice and delivering high-quality service. Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of relevant safety regulations, codes of practice, and industry standards (e.g., EN81, BS7255). Work Environment: This hybrid role requires you to split your time between office work, client site visits, and project meetings. As you take on more consultancy work, you may also need to travel to various client sites, providing a varied and dynamic working environment.
