Description Suffolk County Local Government Branch of UNISON - Endeavour House, 8 Russell Road, Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 2BX £35,403 per annum (pro rata for part time) 35 hours per week Permanent Reference: 0042 About the branch UNISON Suffolk County Branch represents over 6,800 members across more than 100 employers, including schools, local authorities, care homes, and other public services. The branch is led by a dedicated committee and supported by expert staff and resources. Our branch has achieved significant successes for our members and continues to grow its membership across Education and non-divested sectors. We are now looking to recruit someone to provide excellent casework support and representation, as well as to help us strengthen our branch through recruitment, organising, and member engagement. What you would be doing Have you got what it takes to: represent members of UNISON Suffolk County Branch across a variety of employers, including education settings, local authorities, and non-divested services serve as a key point of contact for members, by handling enquiries and providing timely advice and support on casework matters contribute to the branch email inbox and telephone system, ensuring that member queries are logged onto our case management system and actioned appropriately undertake casework to support members on issues such as disciplinary and grievance procedures, ill-health and sickness absence processes, disputes, and other workplace concerns recruit, organise, and engage members across all eligible employers, increasing participation in union activities. You will play a key role in providing valuable support and driving forward our mission of fair representation for all members. About you To take up this opportunity you will need: proven casework experience, with a solid understanding of HR processes and employment law. This may have been gained through paid employment or as a lay union representative to be highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities, often working to tight deadlines to demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with members to be confident in handling IT systems, including maintaining accurate records on case management software a solid understanding of trade union organising and campaigning experience of working within education, with public sector employers, or within a trade union would be advantageous. Additional Information: the role is branch-employed, not UNISON-employed the branch will provide a laptop and phone, and travel within Suffolk and occasionally further afield may be required for meetings or training you must live within reasonable commuting distance of Suffolk the branch currently operates a hybrid working model.
