About the Flickr Foundation
If we imagine 100 years from now, the tens of billions of pictures currently held in Flickr could be in something similar to the public domain. Today, we have an opportunity to begin the work to preserve those pictures, their stories, and their interconnections for the very long term. Imagine how a wildly successful Flickr Foundation could help ensure, by example, that the Commons of the future is the one we need and want.
About the role
The Flickr Foundation is a year-old organisation with an explicit goal to be active for 100 years. The Archivist will initiate the design and structure to keep and care for the organisation’s materials, practices and lore, with the intention to make it legible and accessible for the next century at least. The Archivist will also co-design Foundation programs and advise partners and fellows on making and describing work for future readers and builders.
Responsibilities
1. Design and implement archival practices for the organization's materials.
2. Ensure accessibility of archival materials for future generations.
3. Collaborate with partners and fellows on program design.
4. Provide guidance on documentation and preservation techniques.
Minimum Requirements
1. Experience in archival science or a related field.
2. Strong organizational and communication skills.
3. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
4. Passion for preserving cultural heritage.
