Job Overview
We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, and well-motivated individual with a good scientific background to work in Haematology and Blood transfusion departments of Blood Sciences to complement our existing laboratory team in Blood Sciences.
The post holder will liaise closely with the line manager in providing a high quality technical service that builds on the standards defined by the UKAS and ISO 15189:2022. They will be expected to develop and maintain close working relationships with all grades of staff both technical and medical to ensure the effective delivery of the technical service.

This post is currently situated at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough.
Main Duties of the Job
Applicants must have good education to ‘A’ level with a foundation degree in Health Sciences or relevant experience. The successful applicant would benefit from experience of working in a busy Haematology and Blood transfusion departments of Blood Sciences laboratory.
Responsibilities will include day to day management of tasks in your allocated section, training band 3/2 MLA where required, analyser maintenance and IQC, performing diagnostic testing, result entry and to assist in the preparation of SOP’s and other documentation.
This is a shift post and will cover all shifts including consecutive nights and weekends.
Candidates should be well organised and able to work accurately and safely following specified procedures. Applicants will be computer literate and familiar with general office software. Full training for this new post will be provided.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Technical and Clinical Responsibilities
* Participate in a range of duties within the Blood Sciences department, under supervision or without supervision following successful competency assessment.
* Analyses potentially infectious samples using sophisticated automated equipment to produce results of a quality consistent with excellent patient care.
* Carry out biomedical procedures including maintenance, monitoring of sophisticated equipment and audit in accordance with departmental SOPs.
* Be able to effectively deal with simple day to day situations and problems, referring to Senior Biomedical Scientist staff when appropriate.
* Demonstrate a robust knowledge of national and local health and safety standards.
* Effectively contribute to the continual improvement of service and identify risks to Biomedical Scientist staff.

Essential criteria:
* Good education to A Levels, including science subject or NVQ 4 or IBMS Certificate of Achievement (Part 2) or Foundation degree.
