About the job:

The Assembly Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the assembly & Test department, ensuring that all tasks are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards. This role involves supervising a team of assembly operatives, deputies and team leaders for which they should actively lead, train and mentor. The role also requires managing workflow, maintaining quality control and coordinating with other departments to meet production goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement with a proven track record in the use of Lean manufacturing tools and techniques.
Key duties and responsibilities:
1. Supervise Assembly Operations:
Oversee, coordinate and optimise the daily activities of the assembly and test teams, ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion of tasks. Assign work orders, monitor progress, and optimise schedules, with planning, as necessary to meet production deadlines.
2. Quality Control:
Ensure all assembled products meet or exceed quality standards, performing inspections and audits to identify and address any issues. Implement and maintain quality control procedures and documentation.
3. Leadership and Development:
o With the Production Lead and HR, establish a leadership and development program for the team to improve business, team and individual performance.
o Lead, train, and mentor general operatives, deputies and team leaders, fostering a positive work environment that encourages harmony, teamwork and continuous improvement.
o Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to support employee’s continued growth and development.
o Ensure clear succession plans are created to ensure business sustainability.
4. Process Improvement:
o Identify areas for improvement in assembly processes and implement strategies to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and optimise efficiency.
o Collaborate with all stakeholders including technical, planning, purchasing, engineering and production teams to streamline operations to improve performance and efficiency.
o Investigate, propose and implement new technologies or production methods to optimise business, team and individual performance.
5. Safety Compliance:
o Enforce all safety regulations and ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
o In conjunction with the H&S manager, conduct regular safety reviews, meetings and training sessions to promote world-class safe working practices.
6. Resource Management:
o Monitor and maintain equipment, tools, and workstations, ensuring they are in good working condition.
7. Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of assembly operations, including production reports, quality control logs, and employee attendance.
o Prepare and present regular reports to management on production performance, quality metrics, improvement actions, risks and any issues or concerns.
o Work closely with other departments, such as Engineering, Technical, Planning and Logistics, to ensure smooth coordination of activities and alignment with overall production goals.
Personal Specification:
* Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

* A solid understanding of a manufacturing environment and the associated processes.
* At least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
* Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, tools, and equipment.
* Familiarity with reading and interpreting electrical schematics.
* A strong working knowledge and proven track record of lean tools.
* Experience with quality assurance practices and the ability to implement and monitor quality control procedures.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with production management software is preferred.
