Description:
Torfaen County Borough Council is inviting applications from highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic professionals for the post of Environmental Health Officer. The role will provide advice, support and enforce regulatory provisions relating to food, health and safety, and communicable disease control in Torfaen.
The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring businesses are compliant with relevant legislation by using a variety of measures including offering advice, education, partnership working and taking appropriate enforcement action to safeguard the health and wellbeing of Torfaen residents and promote local business growth. You will be an excellent communicator and team player.
The role will involve working flexible hours in accordance with Council policies to meet the needs of the service, including participation in any emergency out-of-hours standby service.
Applicants should have a degree in Environmental Health and hold a Certificate of Registration of the Environmental Health Registration Board or equivalent.

Qualifications / Experience:
Essential
1. Qualified as an Environmental Health Officer, e.g. hold a Certificate of Registration of the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or a qualification considered equivalent by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
2. Relevant Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) qualification for enforcement officers.
3. Minimum of 10 Continual Professional Development (CPD) hours within the last 12 months of food training relating to the delivery of food official controls.
4. Assessing compliance with regulatory requirements relating to food safety and hygiene, and health and safety.
5. Able to communicate using appropriate styles, methods and timing, including digital channels, to maximise understanding and impact.
6. Regularly monitor own work against milestones or targets and act promptly to keep work on track and maintain performance.
Desirable
7. Training in the inspection of specialist or complex processes, e.g. sous-vide.
8. Relevant quality assurance qualification, e.g. Lead Auditor.
9. Voting member of the CIEH.
