This newly established Senior Information Governance Officer role offers a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact across Lincolnshire County Council.
About the Role
As a Senior Information Governance Officer, you will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and improving the Council’s information governance strategy. Working within the Information Assurance Team, you will be responsible for advising and supporting services across the Council, ensuring compliance with UK data protection legislation while fostering a culture of transparency and accountability.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Advising and supporting council departments on data protection matters, ensuring legal compliance.
Deputising for the Information Governance Manager, including acting as the Data Protection Officer when required.
Monitoring systems and controls, identifying areas for improvement and recommending solutions that support compliance with data protection legislation.
Providing specialist guidance on data protection risks, individual rights requests, and data breaches.
Collaborating with external partners, including the NHS, Police, and other local authorities, to support information-sharing initiatives.
Delivering training and awareness sessions, ensuring colleagues across the Council understand and apply good information governance practices.
What We’re Looking For
We need an experienced information governance professional with strong technical expertise, the confidence to provide high-level advice, and the ability to communicate complex data protection requirements in plain English.
The ideal candidate will have:
A recognised professional qualification in data protection (e.g., BCS Practitioner’s Certificate in Data Protection) or equivalent experience.
Experience working in an information governance role, dealing with complex data protection matters.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage, influence, and advise colleagues at all levels.
The ability to interpret and apply legislation effectively, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
A logical and analytical mindset, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Experience deputising in a similar role, particularly acting as a Data Protection Officer, is desirable.
As this role may require travel across Lincolnshire, a full driver’s licence and access to an appropriately insured vehicle is necessary.
