Boasting a top tier research and development (R&D) facility at our Two Bridges site in Chertsey, where we focus on research and clinical trials for dementia, psychosis, depression and eating disorders. We have an exciting new role to complement our R&D team for an individual who:
* Values the principles of medicines optimisation and improving the care, quality, and experience of those who take part in clinical trials.
* Will build up the Pharmacy R&D service to match the potential of our top tier facility.
* Has excellent clinical, organisational, and communication skills, sound IT skills and the ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team.
* Will develop and maintain a close relationship with our Pharmacy Team who are based at Farnham Road Hospital, Guildford. SABP are a multisite Trust, so the role may require some travel between sites.
Main duties of the job
- Being the first point of contact for research trial sponsors and Clinical Research Organisations.
- Leading and facilitating pharmacy aspects or pre-selection and other stages of site visit.
- Ensuring clinical trials are compliant with Good Clinical Practice, Good Manufacturing Practice and other statutory standards as well as clinical need.
- Assessing feasibility of new trials and being the link person to co-ordinate with the Pharmacy Team as and when needed.
- Keeping in touch with local and regional pharmacy research networks.

Job description
Job responsibilities
- To be responsible for the operational activities of the pharmacy clinical trials service at the Trust Research and Development base at Two Bridges, Chertsey, acting as the first point of contact on behalf of Pharmacy when clinical trials are under consideration.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the R&D team, site investigators, research personnel, and other support services, including the clinical research network, to provide a responsive, high quality, comprehensive process for delivering the pharmacy clinical trial service.
- To critically review clinical trial protocols on their impact on pharmacy (operation and capacity) for example packaging, labelling and documentation, incorporating further comments from appropriate specialist clinical and technical pharmacists where required and ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice guidelines.
- To maintain and review the pharmacy clinical trial procedures and research policies, ensuring that they are up to date with UK legislation, Trust policy and RPS guidance.
- To liaise with the Pharmacy team and R&D Manager to prioritise, facilitate and support the set-up and validation of new protocols.
- To participate in the running of clinical trials, including initiation visits.
- To liaise with finance to ensure that all pharmacy generated income is invoiced and processed appropriately.
- To oversee training for other members of the pharmacy department in matters relating to clinical trials.
- To represent Pharmacy at appropriate meetings involving pharmaceutical services to individuals recruited to trials.
- To be up to date with the requirements of ICH/GCP and to ensure that any research carried out by the service meets legislative requirements.
- To ensure that supplies of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) for clinical trials meet regulatory requirements.
- To provide specialist advice and recommendations to other healthcare staff, including senior medical staff, nursing staff, R&D staff on matters relating to the use of medicines in writing, in person and by telephone.

Essential
* Masters or equivalent degree in Pharmacy
* Postgraduate Certificate in General Pharmacy or Psychiatric Pharmacy (or equivalent)
* Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council
* Good Clinical Practice Certificate
Desirable
* Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical or Psychiatric Pharmacy
* Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society
* Member of College of Mental Health Pharmacy
* Good Manufacturing Practice Certificate
Experience
Essential
* Post-registration experience of mental health and/or general hospital pharmacy
* Knowledge and understanding of evidence-based healthcare
* Good computer skills
* Competent interpersonal skills and able to achieve outcomes through team working as well as own initiative
* Ability to supervise, mentor, and deliver training activities to staff
Desirable
* Leading on clinical audit
