Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced band 5 nurse to join our small, friendly and supportive Pre-Operative Assessment team. We assess patients for a variety of day case and inpatient procedures.
We would love to hear from you if you have significant experience as a band 5 Nurse and have any of the following:
1. Experience as a band 5 nurse or above in an Acute Surgical setting.
2. Experience as a band 5 or above nurse in A+E.
3. Experience of Pre-Operative Assessment as a band 5 or above.
You must also be a highly organised person with a genuine interest in wanting to optimise patients for surgery. You need to be able to excel in a demanding high pressured environment which is continually developing.
You must have excellent communication skills to conduct patient assessments and liaise with other health care professionals.
Main duties of the job
Our Pre-Operative Assessment team undertake Pre-Operative assessments on all elective patients prior to surgery. We assess a wide range of specialties ensuring each patient is optimised fully prior to surgery.
This is an outpatient job assessing patients face to face, via the telephone and via virtual clinics. You must be prepared to prioritise your workload and have a systematic approach.
Communication is key for all aspects of the job, whether obtaining information from a patient or informing the admission team of a cancellation. You must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

1. Liaising effectively with all members of the MDT to ensure patients’ needs are met.

3. Providing support and advice to ward/unit staff on clinical and administrative issues.
Upholding a duty of care and clinical governance through:
1. Observing a general duty of care for the health, safety and well-being of yourself, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital.
2. Ensuring the rules, policies, procedures and standards of Kings College Hospital NHS Trust Foundation together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations are adhered to at all times.

Education
* Registered Nurse (RN1) with active NMC registration at time of starting appointment
