Responsible for ensuring that there are adequate staffing levels and appropriate skill mix to meet the needs of the department. Ensure patient care is of a high standard. Responsible for recognising and responding appropriately to situations which require immediate action. Deputise for the matron. Ensure performance standards are met in accordance with agreed objectives. Manages effectively the use of allocated resources/funding. To lead the team in the management of Risk and Health & Safety. Responsible for management of staff within the ward. Actively involved in selection, recruitment and retention of staff Ensure that staff receive an annual appraisal/PDR Ensure that all staff have continual effective registration with NMC and are aware of NMC Code of Professional conduct.
