Please see below for detailed job description of the role.
Main duties of the job
The role of the legacy midwife is to support students, newly qualified and internationally trained midwives navigate the early stages of their midwifery careers at UHS. This is an exciting role whereby the successful candidate(s) will contribute to the shaping of our future workforce through education and supervision of clinical skills built up from their own range of broad experiences across maternity. This is a supportive role which involves teaching and encouraging learners to achieve their competencies across all areas of our service in a safe, nurturing environment.
UHS Maternity is a fast-paced progressive service with just over 5000 births every year and proudly received the rating of 'Good' from the CQC in May 2023. We are also a regional centre for fetal and maternal medicine providing specialist care for women with medical problems during pregnancy, and for those whose babies need extra care before or around birth.
We are passionate about serving the local community, providing a high standard of care to all by embracing and recognising the diverse society that we live in. As a service we celebrate our staff as individuals, as well as teams, priding ourselves on being an inclusive workplace for our colleagues from Black, Asian, ethnic minority and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds.
About us
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to.
All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on-site and remote working. Specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.
Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
Specific to this role we are open to discussing flexibility in the hours that you work. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need, and we will explore what's possible for the role and service.
