We’re looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Insurance Manager to lead and manage our Insurance team. In this pivotal role, you’ll work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to design and implement a comprehensive insurance programme that effectively addresses Co-op’s insurable risks and ensures compliance with all legal insurance requirements.
If you have a strong background in insurance management and are ready to take on a leadership position that drives strategic outcomes, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll do

* Develop, deliver, and continuously refine the Insurance strategy and claims plan, aligning with business needs.
* Identify opportunities for improvement within the insurance programme and set clear goals for continual development.
* Set and manage the annual insurance budget, covering premiums and claims spend, and coordinate with business units for fair contributions.
* Oversee the balance sheet insurance provision, collaborating with Financial Control and actuaries as required.
* Act as the insurance risk expert at risk, safety, and governance forums, advising on insurance-related issues.
* Ensure all insurance risks are clearly understood and communicated to business units and enabling teams.
* Lead and develop the Insurance team, supporting both their technical and behavioural growth.
* Maintain and enhance the Insurance Risk Framework, managing internal controls and ensuring effective day-to-day insurance services and accurate claims reporting.
This role would suit people who have
* Significant experience in a relevant insurance or claims role, with ACII qualification (or equivalent).
* Strong understanding of end-to-end insurance and claims processes, including data analysis and interpretation of insurance loss data.
* Proven ability to align insurance strategy with Risk Management Framework and work collaboratively with actuaries and auditors.
* Exceptional communication skills, able to simplify complex information and engage effectively at all levels across the Group.
* Motivated self-starter with strong planning, organisational, and analytical skills, able to manage competing priorities and lead teams when required.
Why Co-op?
* If you have the skills that we need, we can offer you a competitive salary and great benefits package which includes 30% off Co-op branded products in our food stores (as well as other discounts on Co-op products and services).
* A company car or £6,000 car allowance
* Private healthcare
* An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
* 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
* A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
* Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
* Coaching and training to support your career development
* Wagestream – a money management app that gives you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
* Grocery Aid – 24/7 access to a range of emotional, financial, and practical support services for you and your family
