Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Power Systems Consultant to join our dynamic team. This role is focused on delivering high-quality technical solutions in the areas of power system protection and earthing. The successful candidate will provide expert guidance, analysis, and recommendations for a variety of projects, including renewable energy connections, industrial facilities, and public and private networks.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Minimum BEng/BSc in Power Systems or Electrical Engineering.
* At least 10 years of experience in the electricity industry, working with a Generator, Network Operator, Supplier, ICP, or Consultancy in the UK or internationally.
* Extensive experience in delivering protection studies, including a strong understanding of time-graded overcurrent and differential protection techniques.
* Proficiency in analysing and designing protection schemes, interpreting associated drawings, and specifying primary and protection equipment.
* Hands-on experience with power system modeling and analysis using software such as IPSA, PowerFactory, PSSe, SKM, ETAP, PSCAD, or CDEGs.
* Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to deliver high-quality technical reports on time and within budget.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong proficiency in MS Office applications.
* Self-motivated, solutions-oriented professional with a keen eye for detail and a proactive work ethic.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct power system protection and earthing studies across a range of voltages for thermal power stations, renewable energy projects, industrial sites, and network operators.
* Provide technical advice and recommendations on schemes, equipment specifications, and engineering solutions.
* Develop specifications for primary plant and protection equipment, including instrument transformers.
* Contribute technical expertise to bid proposals and business development activities.
* Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers, fostering professional development within the team.
* Represent the organization at industry conferences, seminars, and events.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
* Previous experience in a consultancy environment, including client-facing activities and bid proposal development.
* Experience in conducting earthing and arc flash studies.
* Knowledge of UK Grid and Distribution Codes, as well as Engineering Recommendations such as G99.
* Up to date awareness of regulatory changes and evolving industry standards.
